WHAT WE DO

At Universal Design we design space to meet the needs of all that use the space regardless of ability or disability. Many of the firm's Clients include families where one person living with a specific disability shares common space with several others, necessitating that all needs in the family be catered for.

People served include those with spinal injury, loss of limbs, strokes, people living with Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, ALS, Post Polio and other long term illness and disability.

Some examples of Universal Design Projects:

  • A doctor injured at work and living with a severe back injury requiring his staying at home with his family who are all healthy and active.
  • A mother with teenage children dealing with a spinal injury from a surgery that went wrong and being forced to maneuver in a mobile home with an electric wheelchair.
  • A young boy with Muscular Dystrophy who until only a few years ago was running around the sports field and is now full time in a wheelchair and reliant on his parents to help him get around.
  • A wife who is also a mother and grandmother living with Multiple Sclerosis resulting in frequent periods in a wheelchair and spending most of each day at home.
  • A retired doctor living with his wife dealing with post polio and spending much of his time in a wheelchair and always with a walker.
  • A successful businessman diagnosed with ALS and now confined to his home relying on a full time attendant to help him every day.

The Bomarc Barrier Free Foundation was formed by Marc Mendelsohn as a potential source of funding for universal design and barrier -free products for qualified recipients.
