Marc
Mendelsohn formed the Bomarc Barrier Free Foundation
as a potential source of funding of universal design projects
for qualified recipients. The goal of this non-profit
is to subsidize the costs of modification projects to
enable certain people to have some of this work done who
would not normally be in a financial position to do so.
The emphasis is on subsidize, as this is intended as a
shared approach rather than complete funding from the
foundation. This way the foundation resources can be spread
further in order to assist more people and the individuals
can take ownership in their projects when they share in
some of the costs.
Funding
is derived through outside donations from corporations,
individuals and other foundations. Five percent of the profits
from projects completed by Universal Design Specialists,
Inc are also donated to the foundation.
While
the funding is still very limited and the foundation is
very much in it's infancy, it is Mendelsohn's longer-term
goal to generate enough funding from private sources to
be in a position to make a substantial impact to all who
are served. All enquiry's, suggestions and donations are
encouraged.
